Internet gurus tell us that one
of the keys to financial success in an internet business is having
your own product. We all know that information products are good
profit generators. We know we should be creating our own infoproduct.
What we don't know is…what the heck should we make?
There's a formula that will help you find out what information
product you should create. It comes in the form of an old rule
that's always given to writers: write what you know. Why? Because
you will write better, work harder and with greater insight if you
choose a topic that touches you personally.
If you have no interest whatsoever in cost accounting, you're not
going to produce a very good infoproduct that shows people how to
create spreadsheets. If, on the other hand, you delight in tracking
and organizing information, your infoproduct on creating
spreadsheets will convey both your knowledge and your enthusiasm.
So here's how you begin. Make a list of everything you've struggled
with in the past year. Look through your day planner. Thumb through
old bills and receipts to fire up your memory. There's a bill for a
hospital stay at a time when you had no insurance. Based on what you
learned through that experience, you could create an infoproduct
called "How to Handle Uninsured Medical Bills When You're Really,
Really Sick."
There's a bill from the vet for treating a stray dog that came to
your door. You felt so sorry for it and wanted to help, but the
vet's bill busted your budget. Later, you found out there was an
animal clinic that treated strays for free. You can create an
infoproduct called "How to Negotiate Free or Lower Cost Animal Care
With A Veterinarian."
You get the idea. Everything that's challenged you in the last year
is something you have insider information on. That's what people are
paying for when they buy an infoproduct-insider information. And
because people are, after all, so similar, it's guaranteed that
whatever you've struggled with has challenged and will continue to
challenge many other people as well.
So there's your product: information on whatever has challenged you.
And there's your market: those facing a similar challenge. And
that's how you create your perfect information product.
